The University Inspired Look

As a way of visual expression, fashion has always been influenced by the biggest commercial trends. Hollywood movies, fashion police, red carpet and big music awards have been setting the standards for years now, and burdening girls with the idea of glamour, high couture and prestige. Fortunately, there are still young women all around the world who care more about leading the revolution with their wits, intellect and good manners. Being the strong, independent individuals that they are, these girls still have the time to read, dance and look amazing. Their ladyships are taking over the world by storm, and they do so while wearing some great clothes.

La Cravate, c’est I homme

cravat

Even though it’s not the most representative example demeanor-wise, the scholar style on this girl is classic. The infamous Serena Van Der Woodsen (her legs aside) embellished the holes of the Upper East Manhattan school with just one simple item. She brought back the old-fashioned cravat, and she did it with sass. Browsing through channels on your cable, you couldn’t but notice this powerful image. Serena or not, with a sole necktie, you can own the whole look, whatever you wear it with. The best thing about the neck tie is that you probably already own it. Whether it belongs to your dad, grandfather or some other male member of your family, the perfect neck tie is waiting for you on the back of your family closet. Since you’re already robbing one of your household heads, you might as well pick up one thing more. To go along with a neck tie, you’ll need a plain shirt of one color. Usually, the look suggests basic colors like white, black, gray or khaki, but if you feel slightly more mischievous, you can choose more vibrant colors as well. Whatever you choose in the end, the standard argyle cravat tied loosely across the semi buttoned shirt is a hole in one with this look.

A shirt is a dress, if you have short enough legs

Shirtdress

The trend that has already been established for the year 2015 is a surprisingly chic and spontaneous extended T-shirt in the form of a short dress. Another item you can make for yourself, by giving your old T a makeover or by sewing a new one, since the cut is quite undemanding. It’s amazing how something so simple can be turned into a ladylike, stylish garment. Because of its simplicity, the T-shirt dress is very convenient when it comes to pattern choices and accessories. To keep it within the frame, you can choose fabrics of diamond shapes or checkerboard patterns, but you can also pick some offbeat designs. Simple motifs like flowers or bow ties can make an endearing, girlish excursion. Color blocking was huge back in 2014, but since, fortunately, you don’t need to fit the form to be a fashionista, it can give your dress the statement, minimalistic touch. The ways to accessorize this outfit are unfailing. You can focus on a neck line, and decorate it with a neckerchief tied neatly into a bow or with an infinity scarf. Multiple necklaces with thin, long chains are gentle and subtle, and can be completed with small pendants in shapes of different college hallmarks, like books, glasses or pens.

White collar aspirations

collar

One again, this casual, but stylish trend offers you something you can easily craft by yourself. Detachable collars are one of the biggest hits of contemporary fashion, and every dressy girl hopes that they will stick around. They are elegant, classy and adorable, and easy to combine with any style. Each collar is unique and charming in its own way. Not one girl can resist a peter pan style, since it brings that sophisticated, yet endearing look to the outfit. And the ways to pair them with clothes are infinite! You can wear them with elegant dresses, as much as with simple t-shirts and cute cardigans. If the colors of your clothes are vibrant, or you’ve picked some complex pattern, it’s best to go with a plain white collar. In that case, the collar can be made of delicate, dreamy lace, or embellished with beads, tiny jewels or pearls. You can achieve the extravagant, posh effect with a satin ribbon tied in a tidy bow beneath the collar. In the opposite case, when your clothes are simple and lacking color, you can play around with the most diverse designs. It can be sprinkled with tinsels, decorated with polka dots, embroidery or other striking applications.

His socks compelled one’s attention without losing one’s respect.

Long Over The Knee

Personally, I believe that this particular item is the soul of the whole up-style academic look. Since school uniforms are by definition rigid, over the knee socks complement them with a proper amount of naughtiness. If discreet, sex appeal is innocent on young girls, and certainly a way to make them more confident about their appearance. After all, decency and attractiveness doesn’t necessarily have to confront. The ways to wear over the knee socks are all similar, but still exciting. They can be paired with different types of shoes, from moccasins or loafers up to Chelsea boots and wellies. Considering that they are made of thicker weaving, they don’t have to be multicolored in order to form patterns. According to the theme, the patterns in question can be tartan plaids, windowpane and gingham check or once again, argyle. Naturally, you can always introduce some color, and pick ones in bright, burning shades. It goes without saying that you are going to need some short bottom parts, like simple feminine shorts or, naturally, the accordion pleated mini skirt. Over the knee socks are absolutely essential for this style, not to say that they are cozy and warm.

Thus ornament is but the gilded shore; To a most dangerous sea; the beauteous scarf Veiling an Indian beauty

women scarf

A long, hanging scarf is an accessory of bohemians and artists. It’s a nice way to spice up the college look with that one impressionable item. Since the subject item is the dominant one, it can be a way for you to bring some attitude into your everyday style. And you can wear it in tons of different ways. Also, the scarf can be your personal badge. Remember the different styles of scarves in Harry Potter movies that vary according to the house a student belongs to? Likewise, you can express your love for Doctor Who by choosing the replica of the famous Tom Baker’s Doctor’s brown, green, red and yellow scarf, your loyalty to Borussia Dortmund (yes, there are girls that enjoy football) with the appropriate black and yellow stripes, or your seasonal jubilance with a reindeer Christmas pattern. Some years ago, scarves were decorated with flower applications, so you can be a pioneer in one trend’s revival, if you decide to try it out. However you decide to wear it, a scarf is perfect for long and somber winter days.

Something about an ugly sweater that will always makes us smile

sweater

Right alongside ugly Christmas sweaters, diamond shaped sweaters are one of the most hated items in clothing. Luckily, there are those who proudly stand in their defense, and wear them with style and cockiness. They are indeed a little dorky, but that’s what the college look is usually about. Ultimately, your nerdiness is nothing to be ashamed of, and you should lay it out there for the rest of the world to see. It’s called staying true to yourself! After all, true wave makers are never afraid to make bold statements. Accordingly, the fashion world will be a dull concept if stylists never made any risks. So, if you own one of these brave sweaters, embrace it with style. Wear it with a buttoned up shirt underneath, so that it casually peeks underneath the hemline, and complete it with a pearl necklace. It’s really a trademark of the upper class, but you can make it a symbol of your own if you pair it with a cute box pleated skirt and some fierce looking over the knee boots. The art of fashion is taking something expired and tiresome, and making it young and intriguing.

The right shoes to conquer the world

oxford shoes

Oxfords are one of those items you can’t possibly neglect just because they can be seen all around. They are the crème de la crème of this look, and available for every girl to wear them differently. The masculine note introduces a little dandy feel, which is a perfect contrast to your girly legs. The oxford shoes come in all designs and styles, from tomboyish, punk ones to those with ribbons and bows. Once you’ve tried them on, you’ll never stop adoring them. If you hate dressing up for morning classes, and are in search for a comfortable, clean outfit, convenient for running around the campus, here’s what you should do. Put on some quality stretch pants in dark color, fold over the bottom ends, slip into a fresh, still fragrant and slightly over-sized white shirt, and pull over your favorite sweater. Let your shirt hang untidily over your pants, gather your hair into a messy bun and complete the outfit with polished leather oxfords. Otherwise, if you don’t mind being cute and sleek all day long, you can wear them with baby doll dresses, miniskirts and jeans. Embellished with lace, flower details, and ribbon shoelaces, oxfords can make any outfit mod and delightful.

Worn coats and starry souls

coat

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the brilliant Thomas Burberry and his crafted tailors have continuously bestowed the world with luxurious and exquisite fabrics. The signature trench coats have developed into a symbol of class and inspiration to designers all over the world. It’s treasured by fashion moguls, cherished by runway followers and loved by young, fashionable girls everywhere. And it’s no wonder, considering that it’s rich in design, elegant and easy to wear with every style. The time-honored model of this coat implies double-breasted sides with large buttons, raglan sleeves, wide lapels and a trademark storm flap. The color of the original, classic look is beige, but you can choose colors at you will. Soft colors are perfect with everyday outfits, like jeans and button shirts in different patterns or animal prints. Flaring pink, red or yellow shades can be worn with darker clothes, especially little black dresses and feminine lacy blouses and skirts. The authentic design is self-belted, but in order to make it a little more fun and chic, you can add a bow belt or a wide coat belt in contrasting color. It can also come in different lengths, from just above the ankles to short ones that go a little below your waist. Whatever the length, when paired with some amazing stilettos, the trench coat is a ray of sunshine on a tedious, rainy day.

The compelling story of tweed

jacket

The college style cannot be achieved without a jacket of appropriate design and cut. Primarily imagined as formal-wear, and intended for office work, a traditional blazer has adopted various styles of sleeves, lapels and collars. Nowadays, it is an unavoidable part of every sophisticated street look. It no longer requires a suit or strict cuts of shirts and skirts. It’s casual when combined with jeans, even torn ones, and simple flats. However you wear it, a blazer jacket will bring some refinement in your everyday clothes. Try out the leg-of-mutton sleeves for a little voguish touch. It doesn’t get more posh then a black, double lapelled blazer with a box pleated hem line and satin lining. The classic chanel look with chain applications on edges is beautiful with buttoned up shirts. A double breasted jacket with large plated buttons on both sides are amazing with tight dark jeans and high heel ankle boots. And unforgettably, the quintessentially British tweed jacket! With rolled up sleeves and elbow patches, this style is incredible for pairing with long scarves, loafers and little striking accessories. It doesn’t get more scholarly than that! Naturally, you can always pick unconventionally colourful designs of vivid hues like burgundy, coquelicot or olive, as well as the avant-garde leopard and zebra prints. With a blazer jacket, you can never go wrong.
