Some Tips for Teens

When people remember their teenage years, they are often not that objective and refer to it as the best part of their lives, but if you are still in your teens, you must be aware, as should your parents, that this is one of the hardest periods ever. You are no longer a child, but you are not an adult either – you are somewhere in between, and the whole world seems to be against you, starting with your body, which rapidly starts to change and your mind, which doesn’t really know what it wants, except sex – it knows it wants sex. Constant mood switches, lack of confidence, facial skin problems and lots of other stuff I don’t even want to mention are perfectly normal for this part of growing up, but still, that doesn’t make them anything less annoying.

In this article, I will try to present some things that should be done by teenagers in order to be healthier, both physically and mentally.

Exercise

Regular physical activities are especially important for teenagers because this is the time in your life when your body is forming, so if you leave it to chance, you might not be satisfied with the end result. So, I would suggest that you make time for playing some team sports at least two to three times a week, gym class doesn’t count. Team sports are great for developing team spirit which can be quite helpful later in life, but also for socializing with your friends. If you are a kind of a loner, which is not anything abnormal or something to be ashamed of, running or swimming on a regular basis (two to three times a week) would make a great choice. If you lack confidence, or you are being bullied at school, consider taking a martial arts course – your confidence will become higher if you are aware that you can defend yourself whenever needed.

Diet

Your body is young and still developing, so it is essential to provide it with the nutrients it requires. I’m not saying that you should go on a strict regime with no sweets or salty snacks at all. I’m just saying that you should eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, lean meat, dairy, and stay away from processed foods as much as you can, but that doesn’t mean that an occasional soda or candy bar will harm you… it won’t. If most of your meals are made out of healthy foods, drinking some soda and eating some chocolate isn’t as bad as it would be if you were thirty. Just don’t overdo it, since you will regret it later, when your metabolism becomes slower and unable to deal with all the crap you are eating. Moderation is the key, trust me!

Hygiene
Teen Hygiene

Since you are not a child anymore and your hormones are throwing a party inside your body, you need to take extra care of your personal hygiene. Acne and the smell of your sweat are mostly here because of the hormones, but that doesn’t mean that you should use this as an excuse. Taking a shower at least once a day is essential for a teenager. After the shower, you should definitely use some deodorant and facial crème. Make sure that the crème you are using is mostly made out of natural ingredients, because young skin can be quite sensitive and you wouldn’t want to ruin it by putting some strong chemicals on its surface. Sounds pretty serious once you put it that way, doesn’t it? Don’t forget about your oral hygiene either, since your teeth are very important, and if you neglect them while you are still young, chances are that you will become toothless in your mid twenties. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once. This way, you can be sure that there are no food leftovers between your teeth. Make sure to visit a dentist for regular checkups at least three times a year, and please, don’t use fear as an excuse to skip the checkups. You should be aware by now that the consequences of not going to the dentist are much more scary than an actual visit.
