Brace Yourselves – Heroes Are Coming!

It is impossible to miss these new announcements since they are all over the internet. Basically, until the year 2020, the upcoming blockbuster movies and TV shows are going to be about heroes, heroes, heroes. Even now, there are shows like: Arrow, Flash, Gotham, Constantine, and Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, all of which are really popular, plus there are more shows to come in the future. Clearly, it is the era of the geeks, and we are all loving it since finally, our favorite childhood comic book characters are on the big screen. Recently, both Marvel and DC announced their plans for future movies, so here they are – the blockbusters we can hardly wait to see.

Avengers: Age of Ultron – May 1, 2015

Avengers Age of Ultron
Recently, the trailer for this movie was aired, and even before that, its plot was revealed. We are going to see the crew from the previous Avengers movie assembled once again, with the addition of two new characters Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Unfortunately, the origin story for these two new characters is still unknown in the movies, but I highly doubt that the producers are going to roll with the original one and introduce them as mutants. There are some interesting theories popping up across the web, but I will address them later.

Ant-Man – July 17, 2015

antman
One of the original members of the first Avengers comic book finally gets his time on screen. Ant-Man is a scientist known as Scott Lang who can both shrink and turn colossal thanks to the inventions he had stolen from Hank Pym – the original Ant-Man. All we know about the movie plot so far is that it will, as mentioned, introduce Scott Lang as Ant-Man, and set the stage for another Marvel movie, Captain America 3: Civil War. Additionally, we will also see Hank Pym, the inventor of the Ant-Man suit and Yellow Jacket.

Fantastic Four – August 7, 2015

Fantastic Four
The plot is still unknown, but it is safe to assume that this is a Fantastic Four reboot movie, which will once again include the origin story of the heroes who ventured into space on a research mission, when they were struck by cosmic energy which changed them and equipped them with superhuman abilities. We are very likely to see Doctor Doom as the main antagonist of the movie once again.

Deadpool – February 12, 2016

deadpool
It can be a real challenge to make a good Deadpool movie and obey the standards of PG 13. The movie will be a part of the already known X-Men universe, and Ryan Reynolds will once again take the role of Wade Wilson, the merc with a mouth. We all know what happened in the Wolverine Origins movie, which explains what happened to Wade, but in the last movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past, all of the past events were altered, so we will see how this new Deadpool came to be.

Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice – March 25, 2016

batman_vs_superman
Time for DC comics to shine again. This is one of the most anticipated movies, and there is a huge buzz going on all over the World Wide Web. Although Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavil) are the only two characters mentioned in the title, Zack Snyder plans to introduce Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Cyborg in this movie. Furthermore, Lex Luthor is going to be one of the antagonists, so basically, Justice League is almost to be assembled within the plot of this film. Moreover, we are to expect an epic battle between Batman and Superman, much like the one witnessed in Frank Miller’s comic book “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns”.

Captain America: Civil War – May 6, 2016

civil-war
The plot for this movie will be set by the already mentioned Ant-Man and Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it will have Captain America in it (obviously), along with Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man, Hawkeye and, a recently announced character, Black Panther. Due to the happening in the age of Ultron, the government is going to pass an act in order to control superhumans. This creates a conflict between captain Rogers and his Avengers allies, thus the name Civil War.

X-Men: Apocalypse – May 27, 2016

x-men-apocalypse
We have seen the teaser after the credits of X-Men: Days of Future Past, which features En Sabah Nur, or the Apocalypse, who is the first mutant that ever existed. We can assume that he will be the villain of the movie which will once again include Xavier and Magneto played by Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. We will also see Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence ), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Quicksilver (Evan Peters) and probably Gambit who will be played by Channing Tatum.

Suicide Squad – August 5, 2016

SuicideSquad
It is DC’s time again, only in this case, it is not a film about heroes – it is the movie about villains. So far, Suicide Squad had its appearance on TV in the Arrow series, but this Suicide Squad will be a bit different. It will include Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Bronze Tiger and Harley Quinn. Moreover, Lex Luthor from Dawn of Justice will also be part of the movie, as well as Amanda Waller who is, according to the original story, supposed to put the squad members together.

Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016

doctor_strange
According to the latest rumours, Benedict Cumberbatch is supposed to walk in the shoes of Doctor Strange. This is the first marvel movie to tackle to subject of supernatural existence. Doctor Strange is a former surgeon who is trained by sorceress after hes doctor career is destroyed. Furthermore, it is possible to expect another infinity gem to appear in this movie, but something like this was not even mentioned. Also, we have no clue as to who could be the villain in this film, but since it is more than two years away, it shouldn’t be a surprise. All we know is that it is connected to Marvel studies, therefore, it will probably have an impact on the next Avengers sequel.

Sinister Six – November 11, 2016

Sinister Six
This one is related to the Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie, and the story will be focused on six Spider-man villains who join their forces against him and the city of New York. The emergence of Sinister Six was actually hinted in the last Spider-Man when Harry Osborne goes and puts on the Green Goblin costume, and inside the lab, there are a bunch of other supervillain suits, like Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Rhino, Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio. So far, the rebooted Spider-Man was not disappointing, which is why I believe this movie will be great as well.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – May 5, 2017

guardian-of-the-galaxy
The First Guardians movie was simply amazing, the story, the action, the humour, all wrapped up perfectly. Honestly, I can hardly imagine the second movie to be disappointing, since the first one tackled the issue of infinity gems and Thanos, plus it left a lot of things unanswered. In Guardians of the Galaxy 2, there are a lot of ways to extend the ongoing story line and leave some room for it to further develop in agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and other Marvel studios movies.

Wonder Woman – June 23, 2017

wonder woman
Not a lot of info on this one, apart from that it will probably take place in 1920’s in the homeland of the Amazons. It will basically be a Wonder Woman origin story, and perhaps we will see a sequel which will occur during World War II, but once again, these are just speculations.

Fantastic Four 2 – July 14, 2017

Still haven’t seen the first one, so no idea what the second one will be about either.

Thor: Ragnarok – July 8, 2017

thor-3-ragnarok
We all know how Dark World ended and how things are now a bit different in Asgard. Loki is on the throne appearing as Odin, we do not know what happened to Odin, etc. Not sure how the new Avengers movie is going to affect anything here, but I believe it will leave a minor impact. Additionally, Thor movies usually revolve around Asgard’s affairs, so this one should be no different, perhaps we will even see the big bag demon known as Surtur.

Black Panther – November 3, 2017

black-panther
A new hero, T’Challa from Wakanda (fictional African Tribe), who will probably make his entrance in Captain America 3: Civil War, is going to have his movie. Nothing is known about the plot of course, but maybe it will be related to Hydra and the vibranium, and that is a big maybe.

Justice League – November 17, 2017

justice_league
Honestly, when the Avengers were assembled for the first time on the big screen in 2012, I strongly believed the Justice League movie will be out sooner. Better late than never though, and we are likely to see Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Flash along with Green Lantern (the three latter characters are supposed to have their own movies after the Justice League). The plot is obviously unknown, but I bet we would all love to see Lex Luthor as a villain again, or maybe Darkseid as well.

The Flash – March 23, 2018

the flash
After the Justice League, next DC movie is going to be about The Flash, the fastest man alive. Ezra Miller is the actor announced to play the Flash, I don’t know how much fans are thrilled about that information, but who knows, 2018 is very far away.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 – May 4, 2018

Avengers
2018 – the first part of the epic showdown between the earth’s mightiest heroes and galactic overlord Thanos. We have already seen Thanos, first time during the after credit scene in the Avengers, and second time in Guardians of the Galaxy, meaning that guardians will probably join the epic struggle as well. Furthermore, there is a teaser trailer clip on the internet, making it even less possible to believe that this movie is approximately four years away, and it is still just part one.

Avengers: Infinity War Part Two -May 3, 2019

The title is self-explanatory, no reason to talk about it any further.

Captain Marvel – July 6, 2018

captain marvel girl
Marvel’s first heroine cantered movie, so do not confuse it with DC’s Captain Marvel also known as Shazam. Cast and plot both unknown.

Aquaman – July 27, 2018

Aquaman
Very often treated as the lamest character in the Justice League assembly, Aquaman is now given a chance to present his own story and hopefully prove the audience wrong. The Atlantean known as the Aquaman is played by Jason Momoa, but there is still no hints about the screenplay, so we are only left to speculate what the story will be and when it will occur.

Inhumans – November 2, 2018

inhumans
Another Marvel Studios project known as Inhumans will hit the cinemas in 2018. Inhumans are basically created by humans who crossbred with aliens. The appearance of Inhumans was hinted in agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and in Guardians of the Galaxy, also Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Avengers 2 could actually be Inhumans rather than mutants, considering that the mutants’ existence was never mentioned in this universe so far.

Shazam – April 5, 2019

captain marvel
DC’s Captain Marvel AKA Shazam is a hero with extraordinary magical and physical powers. He is actually a boy who was blessed by some higher power and granted the ability to transform by uttering the word “Shazam”. All we know so far is that the villain of the movie, Black Adam, is going to be played by Dwayne Johnson.

Justice League: Part 2 – June 14, 2019

justice league
Rumour has it that the first Justice League is going to end with a cliff-hanger about the villains who will appear in Part 2. It would be plausible for movies like Aquaman, Flash, Green Lantern, Cyborg, and Wonder Woman to take place before the events which will occur in the Justice League movie.

Cyborg – April 3, 2020

cyborg
A half-man half-machine hero known as Cyborg will, as mentioned, appears in the Dawn of Justice, and in 2020 he will have his own origin story.

Green Lantern – June 19, 2020

green-lantern
Another DC reboot, since the old Lantern with Ryan Reynolds was terrible, will also be in theaters in 2020. Hal Jordan is going to be introduced during the first Justice League movie, and like other heroes, he will also have his story told later on.

Other unspecified rumors

There are other hero movies which are not yet confirmed and they still do not have their titles:

  • Untitled Wolverine Sequel March 3, 2017 – why not, we all love Wolverine
  • Venom unspecified 2017 release – this one is connected to the Amazing Spider-Man
  • Female-led Spider-Man universe movie 2017 – who knows what this is?
  • Untitled Fox movie July 13, 2018 – speculations say so far this could be another X-Men sequel
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 3 2018 – We can assume it will have something to do with Sinister Six and Venom perhaps
