A Beginner’s Guide to a Perfect Smile

Smiling is a perfect way of making everyone aware that you are happy, but did you ever notice that there are people who are afraid of smiling, simply because they have bad teeth? Not only will those people shy away from smiling, but they will avoid public speaking and making new friends, and this all can negatively influence their workplace status, and not to mention their social life. It is a big problem that is not allowing them to relax, and enjoy their everyday life. And why is that? Well, people are mostly afraid of dentists because they want to avoid pain at all costs, and it is causing them to have such poor dental health.

Personal hygiene is the quickest and the easiest way, but there are also some other factors that can help you, and let’s not forget, teeth are an essential part of our digestive system, which means that bad dental health will deteriorate the overall health of our whole body.

Step number one: Eliminate junk food from your diet!

Proper nutrition is probably the most important thing concerning your health and the health of your teeth. The effects of junk food and soda drinks, as well as candy snacks, are well known, and most of them happen due to high amounts of fats, salts and sugars that are present in those products. Those ingredients are needed for our body to function normally, but in smaller quantities. If you overdo it, it will all be converted into body fat, and you will only start a journey to obesity. Teeth are no exception, as high contents of sugar will only speed up the production of acids in our mouth, leading to the rapid appearance of tooth decay. That is why it is important to replace all snacks with a healthy dose of fruits and vegetables, which are good, natural sources of vitamins and minerals.

Step number two: Proper hygiene is the key!

While the effects of an unbalanced diet cannot be neutralized with proper dental hygiene, it can eliminate the effects of sugar and acids on teeth. Proper dental hygiene consists of regular daily brushing, at least two times a day, which will prevent bacteria from multiplying, and the use of dental floss will remove any food residue stuck in out of reach places. A mouthwash will also positively influence the pH balance in your mouth, and it will give you minty fresh breath. After every major meal, make sure to rinse your teeth, as that alone will remove all the excess food residue. An important thing you must not forget is to replace your toothbrush every three months, or those electric brush extensions. After a while, the bristles become destroyed and they cannot properly clean your teeth.

Step number three: Eradicate bad habits!

The worst habits for your teeth are actually smoking and drinking. Both of them are bad in general, but they also present danger to your teeth. You have probably seen what cigarettes do to them. This is because they promote the creation of plaque, where the bacteria multiply freely. Drinking will physically cause discoloration, especially if you consume a lot of red wine. Like any dentist would say, you cannot hope to have a perfect white smile, if you do not plan on eliminating smoking, and all the foods that can cause discoloration.

Step number four: Visit a dentist!

You should not only set up an appointment when you have a toothache, but you should regularly visit a dentist for a checkup, at least twice a year. Only a dentist can prevent many diseases and keep track of your overall dental health. He or she can also give you advanced tips that are suited to you only, and the best way of keeping your teeth healthy. The final outcome will certainly give you the teeth you want, without cavities, or any other type of discomfort. You will be able to be more confident, and you won’t have to be shy about your smile ever again. With small adjustments, your teeth will stay in perfect shape for many years to come.
