5 Interesting Uses of Drones in Our Everyday Lives

When someone mentions drones, people immediately think of them as great toys that can take some pictures, but as a matter of fact, people are using drones in many different ways nowadays, some of which can even be a bit bizarre. Drones have their place in law enforcement, but don’t be surprised to see them in action on farms and many other places.

Many people are developing a hobby of building and flying their own drones, and forming a community which is getting bigger day by day. It is believed that, over the next five years, drones will be used to perform a number of useful, and in some cases, very strange functions. Here are some of the most interesting ways in which drones are being used today.

Pizza Delivery

Domino’s Pizza in the U.K. was one of the first to introduce drones for everyday use. The hired a company called AeroSight and a creative agency. They have helped them test out and manage delivering fresh and hot pizzas with drones. They have named their drone the DomiCopter, and there is a video on YouTube where you can see two pies traveling through the sky, crossing the water and city streets, to reach hungry customers at their front door.

Waiter Drone

Since we already established that drones are used to deliver food, another restaurant from the U.K. is making a unique experiment – using a drone as a waiter. This can be good for the customers, because you won’t feel the need to tip. On the restaurant’s website, they say that the drone is equipped with a piece of iPad software and a Wi-Fi system. They named their drone the iTray, as it flies around the restaurant, reaching all the customers, while it carries a tray of food. That is a sight I would really love to see.

Real Estate Sales

One of the most lucrative videographers, Daniel Gárate, was using his expensive drone to capture amazing pictures of luxury properties that are for sale in Los Angeles. At that time, the commercial usage of drones wasn’t allowed and he was shut down. However, based on recent events and the fact that drones are allowed pretty much everywhere, he continued his work. He now uses drones to make commercials as well. He also uses them to make paparazzi-style shots of many famous celebrities, one of them being Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, of course.

Burrito Bomber

A research lab called Darwin Aerospace created a drone called Burrito Bomber, the airborne Mexican food delivery drone. The Burrito Bomber uses an HTML 5 web app, which enables orders and deliveries of burritos. The amazing thing is that you can track your burrito the whole time, and once it reaches your location, the burrito will be dropped with a parachute, and it’ll find its way to your home. I don’t know about you, but I could use this kind of service.

Drone Selfie, or “Dronie”

You all know how popular it is to take selfies and the craze is still present. However, would you use a drone to take a selfie, pardon, a “dronie”? I am sorry to inform you that you will not be the first to do it, because a man called Matt Benedetto already used his drone to capture a selfie in the form of a video. He first took a shot of himself and then the drone went further away, to show the beauty of the location the selfie was taken at.

I believe that this has big potential, because it shows something more than just an image of yourself. Taking a dronie can help you reveal all the details, a lot more than a plain photo of your face. If you want to make works of art and not just plain selfies, you should consider purchasing a drone, a lot of which can be found at reasonable prices. Imagine the look on other people’s faces when you post your first dronie.

These are just some of the interesting things drones are used for and, every week, new projects and experiments are made that inspire many people. Big businesses are always finding new ways to use drones, either as a marketing tools or to reduce costs, but at the same time, many artists and creative people are coming up with interesting and rather unusual ways to use drones as well. I personally believe that drones should be a useful part of everyone’s daily life, since their full potential is yet to be discovered.
