7 Amazing Places to Consider for a Honeymoon (According to the Beach Boys)

So, you married your sweetheart? Except if your marriage isn’t for some immigration-related reasons, or such, you’d probably want to arrange for an unforgettable few days with the woman (or man) you’re planning to spend the rest of your life with.

Everybody who has ever experienced how it feels to love a person knows what joy it brings to make that person happy. What can be better than a romantic getaway for two on a remote island, or a mountain cottage? Spending some alone time with your spouse on such a location will mean loads of nice memories and even strengthen your relationship even further. Of course, there are solutions for you even if you don’t like those quiet and distant locations.

Now, one can name the benefits of a nicely planned and picked honeymoon destination for a long time, but you’re here to find yourself one, so let’s get down to business.

Aruba

Aruba is a small island in the Lesser Antilles, which in general means – the Caribbean Sea. It is located right above South America when you look at it on the map, which puts it on the south Caribbean, and close to the Equator. I think we all know what kind of climate you should expect if you decide to go there, and it is also quite visible on the photo. But be advised, it is not cheap. An airplane ticket from, well, almost anywhere other than America is really expensive. It is ideal for couples as they can have almost all the privacy they want, as well as marvelous scenery to enjoy one another in.

Jamaica

(It is strongly advised to try and imagine this spoken with a Jamaican accent):
Jamaica, man! Everybody happy here. You know what I mean, ya, you know what I mean. The sun is shining, the weather is sweet. The women are, also, but you don’t need to be worryin’ about that now that you got one of your own, right? And don’t worry about a thing, cos you gonna be havin’ a lot of places to be alone with jah significant other, too.

Now, for a more serious matter. (And you can stop imagining the Jamaican guy.) See, Jamaica isn’t a very rich country, and that fact often leads to higher crime rates, so it’s probably advised to be just a little bit careful. Not much, just a little bit. You know, mind your manners.

Bermuda

This particular part of the world is famous for the “Bermuda Triangle” phenomenon. One would think that this fact would make this destination somewhat unattractive for tourists, as it comes with a certain risk to their very existence. Dozens of ships and airplanes have been reported missing while crossing the region, but the Bermuda Island remained a really attractive destination for couples as well as fully formed families, or just young people who want to have fun. It is located to the south/southeast of Florida, which gives these islands an awesome climate on which their whole tourism is based. One of the main attractions is scuba-diving, because the sea is crystal clear, and there are lots of shipwrecks from the pirate period to dive through.

Bahamas

An all time favorite for couples and it has been a common destination for years now. It has actually been “discovered” by Columbus when he first arrived to the western world, but the Spanish never claimed any rights to this particular group of islands. It was the English who took control of it in the 17th century, after the Spanish took almost all of the native people to Spain to work as slaves, basically. It almost instantly became a place where the English noble people went on their holidays, and this was due to the phenomenal climate and clear and shallow seas by which it was originally named. Nowadays, it’s an exclusive and expensive destination for couples seeking a peaceful week or so, under the palm trees and drinking overpriced cocktails in the sun. The only downside may be that this destination too requires that you pass through the Bermuda triangle to get there.

Key Largo

This is a prime destination for scuba divers and diving enthusiasts in general. It is located in the north part of the Florida Keys, and that makes it a wonderful weekend getaway for people living in Florida. The whole Florida Keys archipelago including Key Largo is a fossilized coral reef from before the last ice age. The reef is what actually attracts the divers from around the world, not only from Florida and the US. It became famous through the Key Largo movie from 1948, starring the marvelous Mr. Bogart. Until then, it was called Rock Harbor, but after the extreme success of the movie, they decided to change the name to Key Largo. It has been a popular destination ever since, because people like to visit certain locations they saw on a movie they liked.

Montego

Montego is actually a place in Jamaica, the country I described in one of the previous chapters, though briefly. It is basically a port city in the St. James parish, but it has acquired a certain status in the world of tourism during the last couple of decades. If you ever get there, make sure you visit the Doctor’s Cave Beach Club, since it is the place to visit when in the area. Other than that, it actually isn’t much of a place to visit with you sweetheart, since the town is quite poor and, being a port, the sea tends to get dirty at times. But that fact is in fact ok, since all of the tourist spots are around town, rather than within city limits.

Kokomo

And now we come to the crown jewel of the whole text. And guess what? It doesn’t exist. The Beach Boys made it up just for the sake of the song. There is a town called Kokomo, but it’s in Indiana, not “off the Florida Keys”. But, by the way they described it, it sounds like a nice place to visit. As for the real Kokomo, I doubt it’d make a nice enough place to take your dear wife/husband/gay partner to.

To sum up, almost every remote island makes for a good destination if you want to spend a week or so isolated from the rest of the world, which makes such destinations a good choice for honeymoons. Of course, for a more serious approach to this subject, you’ll need to browse the rest of the Internet a bit more, but some of these will actually work just fine for you and your dear.
