5 Healthy Restaurants to Go to When in Barcelona

If you have already had your share of tortillas, patatas, chorizos and bravas, then you should devote your next trip to Barcelona, to explore their food scene from a slightly less traditional to a slightly more metropolitan angle. Barcelona is known for its Michelin starred restaurants, but you should look for those sweet spots in between accessibility and creativity. Many innovative eateries have emerged all over the city and they are both nutritionally and environmentally conscious.

Both of these characteristics are very appealing, especially if you are a well-traveled tastemaker who wants to try some healthy varieties of the traditional Catalan food. This is why we are here, because we are happy to report that we have already came across a few places that deliver both taste and looks. So, check out our list of places where you can eat well, feel great and make some good snaps for your Instagram, too.

The Green Spot

The Green Spot

This place opened recently and they had no problem in doing everything right from the very start. You will be wowed by the impeccable interior décor before you even lay your eyes on the menu. It can be described as earthy luxury with a hint of post-modern and brutalist influences. Floor-to-ceiling windows, an open kitchen, jungle-like courtyard and arched structures give off a pretty cool vibe.

Do not be reluctant to try out their delicious meals, especially the coconut veg curry, which will both surprise you and satisfy you. If you are a fan of seasonal, sophisticated and considered dining, you are going to love this place. Their cocktails are delicious too, and the kohlrabi carpaccio can be considered a work of art.

Flax and Kale

We can say with certainty that place is the mecca for people who are health-focused; it is big, it has an amazing roof terrace and a calendar filled with events. Not to mention that there is always a lot of Deliveroo bikes outside, which only confirm their popularity, or just the fact that Spaniards love takeaway.

The grilled watermelon and goat cheese starter will leave you rethinking hot fruit and the macro bowl, together with an incredible fluoro beetroot hummus. While you are in the neighborhood, make sure to visit Loring Art book store that is across the street, where you can obtain some great reading material and holiday souvenirs.

The Juice House

The Juice House

This very homely café delivers delicious food any time of the day and if you are deep into your superfoods, from chia pudding and wheatgrass, then this is definitely the place you need to check out. For breakfast, skillet eggs will make your senses tingle and you can even build them up with added asparagus, mushrooms and more.

If you prefer a sweeter breakfast, then the buckwheat pancakes with berries and coconut are a must. For lunch, make sure to try the sea bass marinated in matcha and ginger, it seems kind of experimental but it is very simple. If you need to be entertained while you eat, do not worry, there is a big stack of magazines that contains pretty much every issue of National Geographic.

Travel and Cake

Travel and Cake

There are a couple of these places around Barcelona, but the corner café on Carrer de Roselló is perhaps our favorite. They go by the motto “In Grandmothers We Trust”, so Travel and Cake definitely gets both ours and our grandmas’ vote. They only use locally sourced and organic ingredients wherever they can, and that includes their coffee. If you are lucky enough, grab a seat by the window to make your meal even more joyous. We recommend the protein salad bowl, because it is just too good and you will receive good value for your money. You may even receive a pink beetroot cured egg.

This cold-pressed juice bar is just beside La Barceloneta, so you can team up with Maka Maka that is across the road, grab a takeaway and you will be all set. If you consider yourself hardcore, then make sure to try the Black Lemonade, which is a detoxifying mix of cayenne, lemon and activated carbon.
