4 Vintage PlayStation One Games

Children who had the opportunity to play PlayStation One are now grown people who are probably still interested in video games and play new and advanced consoles. We can all agree that back in those days, games were predominantly child-friendly with as little violence as possible, and the genre, platform-adventure, was introduced. We are going to look back into the past and remind ourselves of some of the most popular PlayStation adventure games for children.

Klonoa

klonoa

Now that I think about it, I still don’t know what Klonoa actually was? I think it was a kind of a cat with extremely long ears that he used to fly. Or something… Anyhow, it is about this magical place that is fueled by dreams, and that is why no one can remember anything about it when they wake up. He goes on this journey with his friend, a strange ring spirit named Huepow. On their journey, they travel around the world searching for Ghadius, a dark and mysterious entity that wants to destroy the world. This fantastic world, with a brilliant design, had one of the most emotional moments in the history of gaming, the scene when Klonoa’s grandpa gets killed. Everyone who played this game cried at that point, and if it didn’t make you cry, then you are a heartless monster. Moving on.

Spyro

Spyro-The-Dragon

You must have heard about a small purple dragon with a big heart and an even bigger fire breath? The game starts as he avoids a magical attack made by Gnastly, only because he is too small. This is the beginning of Spyro’s epic adventure where he tries to visit different worlds in order to free all the dragons that were frozen. This character has a lot of fire in his heart (literally), and an even smaller friend named Sparx. Spyro is surely an acrobatic little dragon – he knows how to fly, run, jump, roll and even bash doors and locked chests with his head. There are a few powerups that enhance one of his abilities so he could fly indefinitely, or create fireballs and throw them across large distances. A plethora of enemies and supporting characters was amazing for that time, and we grew to love and cherish each and every one of them.

Tomb Raider

tombraider

One of the most iconic characters that many people enjoyed playing on the PlayStation console. Kids loved her, but their parents loved her even more. Not only was she presented as a beautiful, athletic, young  English woman, but she was also a world renowned archaeologist and adventurer. Did we mention that she was super rich? If there ever was a female Batman – it was Lara Croft. She sets off on an adventure of her lifetime in order to find an ancient artifact. Games about this young woman are being created to this very day, and the fact that Angelina Jolie portrayed her in the Tomb Raider film series helped. I mean, who wouldn’t want their favorite female character to be played by Angelina Jolie?

Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot

And finally, we have an unofficial PS1 mascot – Crash Bandicoot. This lovely dog, with the occasional help from his sister Coco and Aku Aku, is traveling the three islands in order to save his girlfriend Tawna. The game was designed and divided into levels, and each one introduced a special climate and environment. Frozen mountains? Check. Swamps? Check. Jungle where a bear is chasing you so you must run like crazy in fear of dying? Check! Now that I think of it, that bear is actually the reason I never go to zoos. Anyway, as with any other game, there is a villain. The evil Doctor Neo Cortex is constantly trying to capture Crash, as he escaped from his laboratory. We have to admit that the story isn’t exactly Anna Karenina, but it has still provided an interesting setting and one of the most unforgettable experiences for every child who had the opportunity to play this game and its two sequels that were also available on PlayStation.

These games were classics and they still are. There are some ways that you can revisit your games if you still have a working PlayStation One console. If you want, you can check out other, currently popular games, but we still recommend going back and replaying these vintage games, as they are some of the nicest memories we carry from our childhood.
